The technology used today replaces the once used ablative resurfacing that saw the plastic surgeon remove the top layer of skin from the patients face leaving the patient to then suffer with oozing, crusting and seepage from the treatment sites for weeks while the entire surface of the skin healed. Side effects were severe and complications such as hypo pigmentation common. The laser treatments used today have been modified in that it sends cones of energy into the skin creating an ablative thermal channel at the pixel area — a micro-injury — without disturbing the surrounding tissue. Those micro-injured areas start the process of healing and the untreated area acts as a reservoir for rapid restoration. As the fibroblasts in the skin are thermally injured in a controlled way, there is the initiation of new collagen and elastin which results in skin remodeling; visible tightening of the tissues and texture improvements. Skintegrity offers fractionated Erbium 2940, Fractional CO2, Radio Frequency Fractionated Micro Needling and the Clarion Mesotherapy Beauty Bosster Micro Neddling with Redensity 1 injections.  Less aggressive options such as Clear Lift Pixel resurfacing, Micro Dermabrasion, Black Doll Therapy and the Oxygeneo are also available.

CO2 And Erbium Fractional Laser Treatments

Differences Between CO2 And Erbium Fractional Laser Treatments

There are 2 types of ablative lasers: iPixel carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium (also known as ND: YAG) lasers.

Both help resurface the skin and act as an ideal remedy for those whi wish to resurface the skin while lifting and tightening.

What Are Ablative Lasers?

Fractional laser beamscreate tiny microscopic holes in the epidermis to initiate the process of skin remodelling with the production of collagen. Collagen is an essential part of the human body. It produces structure and support for the skin, organs, and other vital components of human biology. Fractionated lasers cause thermal injury in the dermis, and that signals the body to produce more collagen in the damaged areas, which results in controlled tissue vaporization. Over time, this improves the texture, tone, and firmness of the skin’s surface, which are the results that most people want when they consider laser resurfacing treatments. .

Comparison of Erbium and CO2

iPixel YAG – Erbium

– YAG laser has a shorter wavelength that equates to a lower level of penetration into the skin. – YAG lasers have a higher-power density in terms of focusing in on specific areas. – YAG lasers have a small Rayleigh length* vs. CO2, which has a longer Rayleigh length. – YAG is great for quicker processing of thinner materials – Can be Q-switched for pulsed or continuous wave output operation. (This is a feature used in laser ablation.) – Erbium laser provides a milder, less invasive treatment option than a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser. The erbium laser skin-resurfacing treatment is the ideal choice for those who would like to dramatically improve their skin’s appearance. It removes superficial scars and lines in addition to deep wrinkles, and it improves the appearance of the texture and tone of the skin. Erbium is for those who have less skin damage and want to be able to recover and rapidly get back to their normal lifestyle. Erbium still proves to display significant improvements in the face with less associated downtime.

Fractionated CO2

– CO2 (molecular formula for carbon dioxide) laser has a longer wavelength, which equates to a higher level of penetration into the skin. – CO2 lasers have a high Rayleigh length* vs. YAG lasers, which have a shorter Rayleigh length. – Requires varying focal lengths for different ablative applications – Capability limited to one mode: CW (continuous wave) operation * Rayleigh length refers to the capacity of the laser to withhold energy so that it can process and cut through thicker materials. The higher the Rayleigh length, the higher the ability to cut through thicker materials. Ablative lasers can target varying depths into the epidermis. The procedure is often more intense than other laser treatments due to the puncturing of the skin in micro needle holes, so most patients do require pain relief during their treatments .  CO2 laser treatments are able to address deeper layers of damaged skin by removing more of the skin’s superficial layers. However, with more intense treatments comes a longer recovery period.

About Fractional Skin Resurfacing (CO2 and Erbium)

The Treatment

We ask that you come for your treatments with your skin clean and dry without makeup. A pure moisturizer is acceptable but should be free of perfumes and chemicals. In some cases, a topical anesthetic can  be applied for 20 – 40 minutes pre treatment to help numb the treatment site and provide increased comfort for the patient. This anesthetic will be removed prior to the treatment. You will put on protective eyewear for the duration of the treatment.

Treatment Discomfort

A feeling of warmth will increase as the treatment progresses and after the completion of the treatment the skin will feel as though you have a sun burn. That sun burn feeling will increase over the approx. 2 hours following the treatment, however, if you are consistent in your post treatment cooling efforts, the feeling of heat will dissipate more quickly than if you do not post cool.

Post Treatment

Once the treatment has concluded, you will have cooling cloths, ice, warm water and vinegar washes (for post CO2) applied to the area and a highly hydrating post moisture cream will be applied. The redness will last anywhere from several hours to several days depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment for Erbium and a week to 10 days for the CO2. The more you cool the treated area the shorter you will feel heat and the swifter the redness will disappear. CO2 will have a color change in the skin to brown and then a sloughing process. After several days the skin will flake (not peel) and you may feel like the skin is tight and dry. You will have a specialized, highly hydrating moisture cream to apply that will help with the dryness which can be applied in small amounts for the first several days. Depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment series, you will be able to apply mineral makeup as soon as the sunburn feeling has dissipated and you will be able to resume your normal daily activities immediately upon completion of the treatment however you may want to avoid public exposure until the critical healing phase is resolved. You should avoid direct and prolonged sun exposure and not use highly abrasive cleansers on your face nor should you use creams with heavy perfumes or chemical ingredients for several weeks post treatment.

Number of Treatments

The number of treatments required and the spacing are dependent on several factors including; your age, level of damage and level of health which will determine the ability of your body to regenerate. Usually, for Erbium, 3 -5 treatments are delivered 2-4 weeks apart. For CO2, often one treatment is often sufficient depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment and the amount of downtime acceptable.

The results will be evident within the first week after your treatment series begins and will continue to become more evident as long as 6-12 months post treatment. The length of time the results last are dependent on general health and lifestyle factors.  The fibroblasts deep in the tissues in the skin take time to regenerate and the process of collagen and elastin redevelopment takes time to become fully complete. It is important to remember that we are always aging. The treatments offer prevention, correction and maintenance of your skins integrity and the length of time between treatment series will depend on your skin care regimen once the treatment series is complete. Your Skintegrity laser specialist will go over these recommendations during your treatment series.

About Clear Lift

ClearLift™ Pixel Q Switched laser is a collagen developing treatment which improves skin texture and tone, smooths wrinkles, decreases skin laxity and slightly diminishes brown age spots.

By targeting the neck lines, sagging skin, dark spots and fine lines all in one treatment, the Pixel Q-Switched Laser Facelift from Alma Lasers differs from traditional fractional laser skin resurfacing treatments. This is because it goes deep into the dermis more rapidly.

This means the regeneration of the collagen takes place with no injury to the skin’s surface. The main advantage is the patient’s comfort, as it’s a virtually painless procedure with no down time – all the while achieving great results.

Nicknamed the ultimate "lunchtime lift" procedure, this laser works by treating the epidermis and upper dermis, creating tiny ablative zones which stimulate the growth of young, healthy tissue, and a greater collagen production rate.

Alma Laser’s ClearLift™ delivers a controlled dermal wound without harming the overlying epidermis, so that all stages of healing and skin repair occur under the intact epidermis (skin surface). This is why patients don’t see any peeling, flaking, redness or swelling. No numbing is required prior to treatment, and as the skin heals, it does not damage the outer layer (which means no pain during, or after the procedure).

This treatment can be done on all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI) without any danger for darker skin, and it usually takes three-four treatments to reveal satisfying results.

Finally, in combination with the Clear Lift™ laser for platysmal band muscles, the only available treatment is still a neuromodulator such as Botulinum Toxin type A ® – which needs to be used by an experienced injector, as it’s done in a delicate area close to the airway flow.

For the patients who still want to undergo a surgical neck lift, Clear lift™ laser is an additional solution even after the surgery, as it delivers a rejuvenated skin with a youthful appearance

More on Clear Lift Pixel

Alma Laser’s ClearLift™ delivers a controlled dermal wound without harming the overlying epidermis, so that all stages of healing and skin repair occur under the intact epidermis (skin surface). This is why patients don’t see any peeling, flaking, redness or swelling. No numbing is required prior to treatment, and as the skin heals, it does not damage the outer layer (which means no pain during, or after the procedure).

Because ClearLift heats deep beneath the skin (up to 3mm in depth) no numbing is required prior to treatment and all skin healing happens without damaging the outer layer of skin.

Used exclusively with the Harmony XL, ClearLift represents a new alternative to traditional laser skin resurfacing and laser skin surgery. Clear Lift offers many advantages:

Fast and Easy to use – Treatments in as little as 20 minutes

Virtually Painless, No Downtime

Visible improvement in skin appearance in as little as one treatment*

Laser Facelift: Am I suitable?

If you’re looking for a all-over facial rejuvenation without surgery, then the Laser Facelift might be for you. It’s suitable for all ages and most skin types with moderate signs of ageing and/or sun damage.

Laser Facelift: What’s the treatment like?

The Pixel Q-Switched laser divides up the light energy into multiple fractions that target deep into the dermis. The ‘damage’ it does then encourages the production of collage at this deep level for a lifting and tightening effect as well as improving the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin tone.

Laser Facelift: What about after?

The treatment takes just twenty minutes and patients report seeing an immediate plumping effect, but these results continue to improve over the next month as collagen is rebuilt. For best results, three to five treatments are recommended.

A touch-up treatment might be required six to 12 months later – your lifestyle can affect the longevity of the results and you should maintain a healthy lifestyle and take good care of your skin to get the most from your Laser Facelift treatment.

Laser Facelift: Are there any risks or side effects?

A ‘lunchtime lift’, the Laser Facelift has no downtime because the Pixel Q-Switched laser works deep underneath the skin’s surface, leaving no redness or tell-tale signs that give the game away. This means that normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Fractional Radio Frequency Micro Needling

Microneedling is a popular procedure that can safely and effectively address a host of skin concerns. Now, an innovative procedure combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, taking skin rejuvenation to the next level. There are a number of reasons why RF microneedling needs to be your new go-to option for full skin rejuvenation today.

Traditional Microneedling

Traditional microneedling uses a special device that creates micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s own healing response. Collagen and elastin production are initiated, which effectively tightens skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and acne scarring. In some cases, microneedling may include the infusion of platelet rich plasma (PRP) into the created holes, allowing for deeper penetration of nutrients and growth factors for more effective results.

RF Microneedling

RF microneedling adds the element of radiofrequency energy to the traditional microneedling procedure. The RF energy is delivered via small needles. In addition to the benefits seen with the micro-injury provided by the microneedles, RF microneedling also delivers RF energy deep into the dermis further enhancing skin tightening and scar reduction. The RF energy heats the underlying layers, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. Because the RF energy is delivered so deeply, it can produce faster, more dramatic results.

Who is it for?

RF microneedling is appropriate for nearly any skin type and tone. The procedure addresses the following issues:

•Fine lines and facial wrinkles

•Scarring from acne and chicken pox

•Mild to moderate skin laxity

•Irregular skin texture and tone

Most patients will achieve full results with 2-3 treatment sessions, spaced about four weeks apart. The number of treatments will depend on how well the patient responds to the treatment and the severity of the skin issues to be addressed.

Benefits of RF Microneedling

RF microneedling can offer similar results to ablative laser procedures, but with significantly less discomfort and downtime. Topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. Treatment usually takes 1 hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Skin is typically red for the first day or two after treatment, but the redness is typically mild and much less than is often seen with laser procedures. There is little or no discomfort after the procedure and patients typically are able to return to regular activities within a day. Makeup can be applied 24 hours after the procedure to mask any residual redness.

Fractional RF Micro Needling

Photodamaged and aging skin is characterized by the thinning of the epidermis and dermis and is associated with a decrease in collagen levels resulting in fine lines, wrinkles, tone and texture changes, and lax skin. Treatment of photoaged skin is based on inflicting damage to the dermis, resulting in neocollagenesis. Damage to the dermis results in the upregulation of the activity of various enzymes, such as metalloproteinases and collagenase that are responsible for the removal of old tissue and deposition of new dermal tissue1. Traditionally, laser-based technologies are used to resurface the skin. However, these treatments vary in their efficacy, adverse effects and downtime after treatment.

Recently, fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling has emerged as a treatment option. Rather than impacting the entire surface, microneedling causes thermal damage to the dermis in microscopic zones. The intact surrounding tissue accelerates the wound healing process, reducing recovery time and resulting in minimal adverse effects.

Investment for full face skin resurfacing starts at $450 with final pricing to be determined during consultation

Adding Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

In addition to offering this revolutionary procedure, Skintegrity can further enhance results for some patients by adding platelet-rich plasma to the mix. Platelets are found in the blood and contain important growth factors that promote cell regeneration and repair. When platelets are injected into the skin immediately following an RF microneedling procedure, the two work synergistically to improve the appearance of the skin. When PRP is added, the treatment the effects of wrinkle reduction, stretch mark and acne scar improvement are enhanced. In addition, microneedling and PRP are also effective in treating mild hair loss for both men and women.

Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. Many different products and treatments use this method, including medical procedures, salon treatments and creams and scrubs that you apply yourself at home. It’s usually done to the face, chest, neck, arms or hands. Before we can understand how microdermabrasion does what it does, it’s important to understand how the skin works.

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It’s a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.

Microdermabrasion Effects

The principle is that if you remove or break up the stratum corneum, the body interprets that as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment, this causes mild edema (swelling) and erythema (redness). Depending on the individual, these side effects can last anywhere from an hour to two days.

This process has a few beneficial effects. With the stratum corneum gone, the skin’s surface is improved. The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin’s visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are removed. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin. As microdermabrasion temporarily removes some moisture from the skin, it is always followed by the application of moisturizing creams.

Early studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatment at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow, as well, removing deeper blemishes over time. Some evidence seems to indicate that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface.

The Treatment

The tool used shoots a stream of tiny crystals over the skin and collects the leftover dead skin cells and used crystals.

The vacuum action of the machine has four main functions:

It pulls and raises a small section of skin to work on.

It creates mild swelling and brings some of the impurities to the surface.

It shoots a stream of crystals across the targeted skin patch.

It collects the used crystals and dead skin for disposal.

Our treatment specialist steadily moves the tool over the target area, applying even and steady pressure to remove the stratum corneum without affecting the lower skin layers. A standard session usually consists of one to three passes with the tool. In most cases, the patient is then asked to apply specialized lotions and creams to the affected area between sessions. This re-hydrates the area and assists in promoting healthier new skin.

The optimum effects of Microdermabrasion are achieved through a progressive approach using a series of treatments over a period of time. Typically, the patient receives one treatment per week for 6 weeks.

Microdermabrasion can be delivered as a stand-alone procedure to improve the texture and appearance of the skin or in conjunction with the other laser treatments offered by SKinTEGRITY

Full face Micro dermabrasion investment is $149.00
